FAN EXPO Philadelphia 2023 Q&A: Stephen Amell, Emily Beth Rickards and David Ramsey Talk Arrow

Some actors are so believable at portraying their television characters that audiences can’t help but feel compelled to continue tuning in to rewatch every episode of their series. During the height of the resurgence of the superhero genre in the 2010s, the hit CW series ‘Arrow’ swooped in to introduce the popular titular vigilante to television audiences.

Premiering in the fall of 2012 and ending its eight-season run in the winter of 2020, the show is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow. Interest in the costumed crime-fighter grew so rapidly that it launched the Arrowverse. The drama shares continuity with other related television series, including ‘The Flash,’ ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’

The Saturn Award-nominated ‘Arrow’ was developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg. The action crime television series, which is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, featured an ensemble cast.

‘Arrow’s cast was led by Stephen Amell, who played billionaire playboy Oliver Queen. He became the hooded vigilante-hero, Green Arrow after he survived on an isolated island for five years following the sinking of his father’s yacht. Oliver eventually returns to his hometown of Star City with a mission – to correct his father’s mistakes and save the city from the crime that has grown in his absence,

‘Arrow’s supporting cast included David Ramsey, who played Oliver’s partner, confidant, and bodyguard, John Diggle / Spartan. John later becomes part of Oliver’s vigilante team. Emily Bett Rickards portrayed Felicity Smoak / Overwatch, an IT technician at Queen Consolidated who also later becomes part of Oliver’s vigilante team. The duo eventually married and had a daughter, Mia, together.

Amell, Ramsey and Rickards generously took the time earlier this month to participate in an ‘Arrow’ Q&A reunion panel at the Pennsylvania Convention Center during FAN EXPO Philadelphia 2023. Listen to the full Q&A above.
