Project Home: 3D Printing the Future Exclusive Clip Showcases a Mother Pursuing a Radical Solution to the Worldwide Housing Crisis

The ability to overcome their sense of hopelessness in a societal situation where they feel like they have no prospects is a vital one for many people around the world. The struggle of two single mothers who previously weren’t able to provide their children with their own permanent homes, but are now being offered a second chance of obtaining their own shelter, is chronicled in the new documentary, ‘Project Home: 3D Printing the Future.’

The movie chronicles the venture to successfully build the world’s first 3D printed villages, which includes offering potential new homeowners, like the two mothers, the opportunity to build their own houses. The participants in the program are given the chance to pursue a radical solution to the worldwide housing crisis, and close the racial gap of homeownership.

1091 Pictures is releasing ‘Project Home’ today on digital platforms across North America. The project’s official distribution comes after it premiered at the esteemed Heartland International Film Festival. In honor of the feature’s upcoming release, Film Factual is premiering an exclusive clip from the project.

‘Project Home’ was directed by Laura Waters Hinson (‘As We Forgive,’ ‘Street Reporter’). The filmmaker is a student Academy Award recipient whose previous work has screened at the U.S. Congress, the United Nations, the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art and dozens of international film festivals.

‘Project Home’ follows the innovators at New Story, Icon and Habitat for Humanity, who are developing communities and building houses using 3D printing technology. The movie documents the stories of the two single working mothers who can now buy their first homes, due to the innovative new technology. One lives in an impoverished village in Mexico, where New Story and Icon are building a community of 3D-printed houses, and the other lives in Virginia, where Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring her new home.

The film was produced by Tyler Schiffman, Davis Huber, Lana Link, Rob Pfaltzgraff and Kristina Kendall. While discussing the feature, Pfaltzgraff said: “‘Project Home’ is an inspiring documentary showing how community, entrepreneurship, and innovation can transform the housing sector and provide millions worldwide with safe, sustainable housing…We hope (the movie) will spark important conversations on how we can leverage technology in solving some of the world’s most pressing issues.”
