An iconic holiday figure is coming down the chimney on Christmas Eve – Art the Clown! The villainous clown from the acclaimed horror ‘Terrifier’ franchise is slaying Santa Claus as his competition in the series’ anticipated second sequel. In order to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County, as well as the franchise’s fans, as they peacefully drift off to sleep on the heartwarming holiday, Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting unveiled the teaser trailer for ‘Terrifier 3’ online today.
The teaser’s debut online comes after it played following screenings of the nationwide theatrical re-release of last year’s ‘Terrifier 2’ earlier this month, on November 1. The teaser’s premiere online, which is accompanied by ‘Terrifier 3’s poster, follows the recent announcement that the upcoming film will be distributed in theaters nationwide on October 25, 2024.
‘Terrifier 3’s teaser and poster revealed an intriguing twist – the series’ upcoming installment will be Christmas-themed, adding an extra layer of anticipation for horror enthusiasts. In the second follow-up of writer-director Damien Leone’s breakout horror movie, 2016’s ‘Terrifier,’ Art the Clown is set to terrorize the unsuspecting families of Miles County once again as they prepare for Christmas Day.
The release date of ‘Terrifier 3’ comes two years after its predecessor, ‘Terrifier 2,’ which was originally distributed in theaters on October 6, 2022. The ultra-gory, 138-minute unrated film ravaged theaters during its highly publicized theatrical run, pulling in over $11 million at the domestic box office. ‘Terrifier 2’ was even praised by iconic horror scribe, Stephen Kin. The ‘IT’ author Tweeted that the sequel is “grossin’ you out old-school.”
‘Terrifier 2’ marked the horrifying sophomore chapter in the Art the Clown saga, in which the demonic killer, portrayed by David Howard Thornton, returns with a vengeance. Lauren LaVera became a breakout star and fans across the world embraced her as the next Final Girl. ‘Terrifier’ veteran Samantha Scaffidi reprised her role as Victoria Heyes in the franchise’s first sequel. Horror icon Felissa Rose (‘Sleepaway Camp’) and professional wrestler Chris Jericho also made unforgettable cameos in the series’ initial follow-up. Thornton and LaVera will reportedly reprise their roles in ‘Terrifier 3.’
While discussing the series’ second installment, Leone said, “’Terrifier 2’s remarkable success was driven not only by the insatiable appetite for new and thrilling horror icons like Art the Clown but also by its unparalleled theatrical release and marketing, along with its unyielding spirit. In a cinematic landscape where risk-taking is scarce, I will continue to push boundaries in ‘Terrifier 3,’ and I can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for Art the Clown.”
