Video Interview: DJ Dimitri ‘Vegas’ Thivaios Talks Hazard (Exclusive)

Up-and-coming actor Dimitri ‘Vegas’ Thivaios is braving the chaos of the streets – from the protection of his embellished, immaculate Lexus – to protect his family in the new action comedy, ‘Hazard.’ The Belgian-Greek DJ’s turbulent journey drives the latest installment in the high-octane erratic film genre, in the vein of such fellow entries as ‘Crank’ and ‘Titane.’

Besides Thivaios, ‘Hazard’ also stars Jeroen Perceval, Jennifer Heylen, Mila Rooms, Frank Lammers, Monic Hendrickx, Tom Vermeir, Emilie De Roo and Gene Bervoets. The movie was written by Trent Haaga, and directed by prolific music video helmer Jonas Govaerts. Thivaios served as one of the producers on the comedy.

In ‘Hazard,’ Noah Hazard (Thivaios) is a low-level criminal who loves his car, his girlfriend, Lea (Jennifer Heylen), and their daughter, Zita (Mila Rooms). Noah and Lea talk about getting out of Antwerp and buying a house in the country in order to provide a better life for their family. Unfortunately, they’re having trouble achieving their dream, due to their severe lack of money.

However, Noah’s cousin, Carlos (Jeroen Perceval), who was recently released from prison, seemingly has a solution to the couple’s financial struggle. Carlos convinces Noah to take on a simple driving job that will pay them both well if they’re successful. But things don’t go according to plan, which leads the woman the duo stole from to relentlessly pursue them. Besides their lives being put into danger, the cousins’ biggest problem is that their actions may have put Lea and Zita in harm’s way.

Samuel Goldwyn Films released the project in theaters and On Digital this past Friday, May 10. To help promote the movie, Thivaios generously took the time on Friday to talk about starring in and producing ‘Hazard’ during an exclusive interview over Zoom. The interview with the filmmaker can be viewed in the above video.
