Tribeca Festival 2024 Video Interview: Jed Hart Talks Restless (Exclusive)

The ability of an up-and-coming filmmaker to hone in on characters’ mental deterioration in realistic scenarios signals their potential becoming a brilliant storyteller. That’s certainly the case for UK-based filmmaker Jed Hart, who made his feature film writing and directorial debut on the new psychological thriller, ‘Restless.’

The movie chronicles how the quiet life of Nicky, a empty nester is instantly turned upside down in when hard-partying – and potentially dangerous – new neighbors move in next door. ‘Restless’ stars Lyndsey Marshal as the middle-aged protagonist, as well as Aston McAuley, Barry Ward, Kate Robbins, Denzel Baidoo and Ciara Ford. Besides the performers’ captivating acting, Hart’s tense storytelling is also brought to life through the drama’s visuals, including its cinematography by David Bird and production design by Frederick Allsop.

In ‘Restless,’ Nicky, a single, mild-mannered woman and caregiver, faces increasing stress and tension after a group of young men move into the adjoining house. Nicky hopes that their first eardrum-bursting party is an anomaly, but what begins as her polite request to keep the music down quickly escalates into an angry series of confrontations that edge toward violence. Pushed to insanity after weeks of no sleep, she begins to contemplate increasingly severe means to find solitude.

‘Restless’ will have its World Premiere in the Viewpoints section of the Tribeca Festival in New York City next Sunday, June 9 at 8:00pm at Village East Cinema. In honor of the thriller’s premiere, Hart generously took the time last week to talk about penning and helming the project during an exclusive interview over Zoom.
