Forming and tying the threads of connection with their target audience is one of the most powerful ways that musicians can form their identity. The members of the Raleigh-based band, Pretty Crimes are doing just that on their recently released second album, ‘Every Moment All At Once.’
The group’s main songwriters, Dan Irving and Em Edgerton, notably explore the bond people have together on one of the art-indie pop-rock record’s single, ‘Still Waiting.’ The song explores how, through the relationships in their lives, people discover different facets of themselves. There are characteristics about themselves that they love, while there are other traits that are hard to grapple with that they wish to change.
‘Still Waiting’ opens the LP with a melodic exploration into the artists’ quest to find answers to the questions they have about their past connections. They ponder whether they can move forward in their lives as they try to overcome the regrets they’re still holding onto from their relationships.
The track’s contemplative vocals, are reminiscent of fellow pop-rock-electronic singer-songwriter, Todd Rundgren. The moody vocals on ‘Still Waiting’ ascend gradually alongside jangling, twangy guitars riffs and playful keys, which successfully launch the harmonious vibes of ‘Every Moment All at Once.’
Pretty Crimes plays the wistful tune in its nostalgic video that’s driven by melancholic cinematography. Shots of the musicians performing the single are intertwined with shots of them spending time in a sprawling field that’s reminiscent of happier time that are captured in old home videos.
Through deep, evocative and high-concept vocals and instrumentals and its accompanying sentimental video, ‘Still Waiting’ is one of the biggest accomplishments, in terms of connection, on ‘Every Moment All at Once.’ Driven by indie folk, dream pop-esque electronica and ’90s alt rock elements, the song appeals to every musical taste, which is one of the album’s biggest accomplishments in terms of connection.
The track and its accompanying video also thrive in exploring how, through the relationships in their lives, people discover different facets of themselves. As a result, the members of Pretty Crimes and their listeners learn to appreciate how they can grow through the relationships in their lives, particularly as they discover different aspects of themselves.
