The reawakening of secret passion can both celebrate the bonds of friendship and love, and examine the pain of loss and grief. That’s certainly the case for the two main characters, Helen and Joanne, in the new LGBTQ+ musical dramedy, ‘Chuck Chuck Baby.’
Dark Star Pictures is set to release the movie Digital and On-Demand platforms tomorrow, Tuesday, August 27. In honor of the project’s distribution, Film Factual is premiering an exclusive clip from the feature, which is titled ‘From Me to You.’ The project’s official release comes after it screened at such festivals as the Toronto International Film Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, NewFest and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Janis Pugh wrote and directed ‘Chuck Chuck Baby.’ She was inspired to make the dramedy by her own North Wales upbringing, where she was surrounded by dynamic, working-class women. She has said that that experience had a tangible energy that explores the beauty and brutality of life, which she includes in her work.
‘Chuck Chuck Baby’ stars Louise Brealey (‘Sherlock’) as Helen and Annabel Scholey (‘The Split’) as Joanne. The movie also stars Sorcha Cusack and Celyn Jones.
Set in present day industrial North Wales, ‘Chuck Chuck Baby’ follows Helen as she spends her nights packing chickens and her days caring for her dying mother-figure, Gwen (Cusack).
Helen’s world takes an unexpected turn with the return of Joanne. They were the objects of each other’s unspoken teenage passions 20 years ago.
One night, encouraged by Helen, Joanne starts a playful wooing game that re-awakens their youthful feelings. As they fall in love and lust, Helen’s zest for life returns. However, Joanne feels the walls closing in as she faces something much darker from her past.
Helen’s world is shattered when Gwen dies and Joanne’s painful memories cause her to flee. Separated and alone, both women must reflect on their unfulfilled chance to break their barriers and allow love to win.
