People’s connections with the homeland of their childhoods often fuel the course of the rest of their lives. Their destinies are particularly guided by the dreams and nightmares that the area has inspired within them. Filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez was guided by the hope and fears of his youthful dreams while crafting his latest feature, the fantasy thriller, ‘The Wait.’
Film Movement is set to distribute the project on digital and cable VOD, including Apple TV, Prime Video and Fandango at Home, this Friday, October 4. In honor of the feature’s home release, Film Factual is premiering an exclusive clip from the movie.
‘The Wait’s home distribution comes after it had its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest last year. The drama went on to have an award-winning film festival tour that included screenings at Sitges, Shanghai, Vancouver and Oldenburg. The movie then opened theatrically in select cities on September 20, including Los Angeles, Miami, San Antonio, Houston and Fresno.
Gutierrez wrote and directed ‘The Wait’ after previously helming such other genre films as ‘Before the Fall’ and ‘Rings.’ His latest project was is produced by his company, Unfiled Productions, as well as Nostromo Pictures (‘Buried,’ ‘Penny Dreadful’) and Spal Films (‘Before the Fall’). The filmmaker’s new folk horror tragedy stars Victor Clavijo (‘Before the Fall’), Pedro Casablanc, Pedro Casablanc, Ruth Diaz, Manuel Moron and Luis Callejo (‘Below Zero’).
Set deep in Gutierrez’s homeland of the Andalusian countryside, ‘The Wait’ follows Eladio (Clavijo) as he has been hired to watch over the hunting grounds of Don Francisco’s (Casablanc) estate, somewhere in rural Spain. The estate is divided into ten hunting stands, spaced far enough apart to avoid incidents.
After three years of service, Don Carlos (Moron) – Don Francisco’s second in command – offers Eladio a bribe to add an additional three stands to the property. Eladio initially hesitates, but his wife eventually convinces him to take the money. His greed has unfortunate consequences, however, that drag his entire family to perdition, and plunge him into the depths of guilt, hatred and revenge.
