Suffering defeat from the advancements of his enemies, German leader Joseph Goebbels is determined to prove his country can still overcome perceptions of weakness in the new historical drama, ‘Goebbels and the Führer.’ The movie follows the rise and fall of the titular character, who served as Adolf Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda. The eponymous protagonist attempted to garner continued support for Nazi Germany following its defeat at Stalingrad in early 1943.
Samuel Goldwyn Films is set to distribute the feature in theaters this Friday, October 4. In honor of the drama’s release, Film Factual is premiering an exclusive clip from the project, which is titled ‘Last Ditch Effort.’
Joachim A. Lang wrote and directed ‘Goebbels and the Führer.’ Robert Stadlober (‘Andrea Gets a Divorce,’ ‘Summer Storm’), Franziska Weisz (‘The Swarm,’ ‘Stations of the Cross’) and Fritz Karl (‘Sisi,’ ‘The Silent Mountain’) star in the movie.
‘Goebbels and the Führer’ follows the titular character in his last seven years by Hitler’s side. While Hitler is at the height of his power, Goebbels is the creator of the pictures of the flag-waving crowds and of the anti-Semitic films ‘Jud Süß’ and ‘Der ewige Jude,’ preparing the people for the mass murder of the Jews.
After the defeat at Stalingrad and the situation becoming increasingly hopeless in late 1944, Goebbels plans the most radical propaganda act. In his last staging, he plans Hitler’s suicide, the murder of his family and his own suicide.
