
On Dec. 16, 2024, the New York Film Critics Online (NYFCO) announced its selections for the best in film for 2024. The voting process was conducted virtually.
Coralie Fargeat’s satirical body horror drama ‘The Substance,’ released by Mubi, won the group’s top prize for Best Picture.
Brady Corbet’s epic historical drama, ‘The Brutalist,’ was NYFCO’s most-honored movie with five awards. Star Adrien Brody was named Best Actor, while Guy Pearce was honored as Best Supporting Actor. Additionally, Lol Crawley was celebrated for Best Cinematography, while Corbet and Mona Fastvold won Best Screenplay. Daniel Blumberg was also recognized for Best Use of Music
Marianne Jean-Baptiste received the group’s Best Actress prize for ‘Hard Truths.’ Natasha Lyonne, meanwhile, was named Best Supporting Actress for her performance in ‘His Three Daughters.’ NYFCO voters recognized Mikey Madison as Breakthrough Performer for her role in ‘Anora.’
Additional awards went to Annie Baker as Best Debut Director for her first feature, ‘Janet Planet;’ ‘Flow’ for Best Animated Feature; and ‘No Other Land’ for Best Documentary.
