Embodying strong ingenuity and morals, especially within the free enterprise system, allows teens to realize who the true heroes are as they set out to assert their independence in the world. That’s certainly true for the adolescent protagonist in the new action-adventure family movie, ‘The Lightning Code.’
President of Evolve Studios, Joel Edwards served as a producer on the film, alongside Jen Lewis. The drama was directed by Kali Bailey, who also co-wrote the script with actress Rose Reid. Andrew Reid, Bruce Davison, K.C. Clyde, René Ashton and Neil Kelly star in the feature, which Family Movie Events is distributing in select theaters this weekend.
‘The Lightning Code’ follows 18-year-old Miles Fletcher (Andrew Reid) as he sets out to unlock the lost secret to limitless energy, which the world has been running out of for years. As a result, America and other countries have created a system of energy rationing.
To help reverse the problem, Miles is working on an invention that also honors his mother. Thirteen years ago, she disappeared while working on a perpetual energy machine using concepts developed by the inventor Nikolai Tesla. She worked on the machine, which harnesses the power of lightning, as a research scientist for Luxos Energy, a company run by tough-minded businesswoman Catherine Blake (Ashton).
Still upset by his mother’s disappearance, Miles decides to use her work to create a small prototype. However, he needs some funding and more powerful equipment to perfect his machine and keep it running.
So the teen decides to attract the attention of Catherine’s daughter, Kennedy (Rose Reid), by demonstrating his machine for Luxos. Just as he perfects his invention, they betray him by stealing his work. In order to retrieve his work, he relies on his friends to help him fight back and stop the company before they turn his discovery into a weapon.
In honor of ‘The Lightning Code’s distribution, Edwards generously took the time earlier this month to talk about producing the project during an exclusive interview over Zoom. Watch the video of the interview above.
