The most honorable and undisputed champions are those who value their legacies and promises to their admirers over receiving continuous monetary compensation past their prime. Celebrated WWE wrestler, John Cena is a noteworthy example of such a proponent of cherishing accomplishments over fortune. He ceremoniously announced last year that he will be retiring from the sport by the end of this year, after almost a quarter-century domination in the ring.
The 48-year-old entertainer made the difficult decision to retire from in-ring competition after he realized that his speed was slowing down. Cena, who has earned the most world titles in professional wrestling history with his 17th WWE Championship win at WrestleMania 41, has shared that no amount of money will lure him back into the ring. The performer added that he values the legacy he has created in the ring since he signed to WWE in 2001.
Since launching his wrestling career, Cena has also found success in Hollywood as an actor. He started his acting career by starring in several WWE Studios action films in the late 2000s and early 2010s, including ‘The Marine,’ ’12 Rounds’ and ‘The Reunion.’ After finding moderate success in his WWE Studios movies, he garnered further triumph on the big screen in such high profile projects as the ‘Fast and Furious’ series and ‘The Suicide Squad.’
Cena went on to reprise his titular role in the latter film’s spin-off television series, ‘Peacemaker.’ The show, which is included in the DC Universe (DCU), the soft reboot of the DCEU, is set to premiere its second season on August 21 on Max.
In addition to his wrestling and acting careers, Cena has also released music as a singer and rapper. He has contributed songs to several WWE soundtrack albums, including ‘WWE Originals’ and ‘WWE ThemeAddict: The Music, Vol. 6.’ He also released an album in 2005, titled ‘You Can’t See Me.’
The entertainer is also a self-taught pianist. He performed a piano rendition of Mötley Crüe’s ‘Home Sweet Home’ for the ‘Peacemaker’ soundtrack. He also performed the song onscreen as the superhero in the episode, ‘Murn After Reading.’
Cena generously took the time on Saturday, May 17 to participate in a panel at the Pennsylvania Convention Center during FAN EXPO Philadelphia 2025. During the Q&A, the wrestler and actor answered fan questions about his experiences wrestling for WWE and starring in movies and television series. Listen to, and watch, the full Q&A above.’
