The most fearless police officers effortlessly navigate their own personal trauma in order to help ease the pain of the victims in the crimes they’re determined to solve. That’s certainly the case for the titular character in the new police procedural, ‘Ballard.’ On the series, Maggie Q plays the titular protagonist, Detective Renée Ballard, who’s resolute on overcoming professional challenges and life-threatening dangers in order to expose the truth
Author Michael Connelly developed the television show. He based the screen adaptation on his ‘Renée Ballard’ novel series, which has been in publication since 2017. ‘Ballard’ takes place in the same literary universe as ‘Harry Bosch.’ The new show also serves as a spinoff of the Emmy-nominated ‘Bosch’ and its first critically acclaimed follow-up series, ‘Bosch: Legacy.’
In addition to Q, Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy and Hector Hugo also star on the drama. Besides writing the source material, Connelly also executive produced the screen adaptation, along with Henrik Bastin, Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, Trish Hofmann, Jet Wilkinson and Melissa Aouate.
‘Ballard’ follows the eponymous protagonist as she leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard does whatever it takes to solve the seemingly unsolvable cases.
‘Ballard’s 10-episode first season is now playing exclusively on Prime Video. In honor of the show’s distribution, Connelly generously took the time before the show’s premiere to talk about creating and producing the project during an exclusive interview over Zoom.
