The cost of forced migration during one of the greatest humanitarian crises in modern times is harrowing and traumatic for everyone involved. The new documentary, ‘Roads of Fire,’ is offering viewers their first glimpse inside the global migration crisis with the release of its official trailer.
New Mountain Films will distribute ‘Roads of Fire’ in its national theatrical release. The movie will premiere on October 1 at New York City’s IFC Center. A national theatrical rollout will follow the New York release.
The theatrical premiere comes after the project won the Best Documentary Feature award at this year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Brooklyn Film Festival. The documentary was also an official selection of both the 2025 Mill Valley Film Festival and the ZagrebDox Film Festival.
‘Roads of Fire’ interweaves three migration stories. Those tales include a human smuggler navigating refugees through the treacherous Darién Gap. Additionally, an asylum seeker is rebuilding her life in New York City. Volunteers are also shown on screen working tirelessly on the frontlines of a mounting humanitarian emergency.

Besides his latest movie, his recent work includes helming and executive producing ‘Don’t Leave Me Behind: Stories of Young Ukrainian Survival’ for MTV and Paramount.
‘Roads of Fire’ was produced by Malcolm Bird and Joél Inchaustegui. Lezra was joined on the film by fellow executive producers Nicole Tao, David Wu, Malcolm Bird and Benjamin Wellington. The documentary was edited by Benjamin Wellington.
