The drive to succeed and achieve top honors, particularly in scoring hallway clout, in high school remain timeless across all cliques – and decades. The new Off-Broadway musical, ‘Vape! The Grease Parody,’ is proving that all-important message through its spoof of the iconic and timeless musical, ‘Grease.’
The new show pokes loving fun at all of the wonderful moments, sexual innuendos, outrageous characters, rivalries and secret romances from the original musical. The hair products may have changed, but the drama and rivalries are still the same.
‘Vape! The Grease Parody’ launched its 10-week Off-Broadway engagement on opening night on Monday, November 3 at Theater 555 in New York City. ‘Vape!’ is a new musical by Catie Hogan and Sketchworks Comedy. Billy Recce (‘A Musical About Star Wars;’ ‘FIVE: The Musical Parody,’ ‘Fowl Play’) and Danny Salles (TV’s ‘The Middle,’ ‘Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List’) worked on the new parody’s lyrics and additional book.
Sketchworks Comedy produced the new musical. Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley Jackson served as creative consultants.
Jack Plotnick (‘Disaster!,’ ‘Space Station 76’) directed ‘Vape! The Grease Parody.’ The musical features choreography by Ashley Marinelli (‘Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical,’ ‘A Musical About Star Wars’).
Theater veterans Scott Silagy and Lara Strong play Danny and Sandy in ‘Vape! The Grease Parody.’ The duo generously took the time earlier this month to talk about starring in the beloved, iconic lead roles in the musical during an exclusive interview over Zoom.
