Academy Award-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (’12 Years a Slave ‘) will reunite with director Mike Flanagan for the anticipated next installment in ‘The Exorcist’ franchise. Their reunion comes after the duo recently collaborated on ‘The Life of Chuck,’ which won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024.
The latest entry in ‘The Exorcist’ series is being produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment for Universal Pictures. The BAFTA Award-winning Ejiofor will join Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe and Diane Lane, who were previously announced to be leading the cast in the upcoming movie.
The drama will be released theatrically on Friday, March 12, 2027. The film is set to shoot in New York City.
The upcoming feature will tell an all-new story set in ‘The Exorcist’ universe and is not a sequel to 2023’s ‘The Exorcist: Believer.’ It’s produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan. The latter will also write and helm the project via his Red Room Pictures banner.
Alexandra Magistro will executive produce the movie for Red Room Pictures. David Robinson will produce for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek will serve as producer and executive producer, respectively, for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
Flanagan is a revered filmmaker in the horror genre, having created the acclaimed series as ‘The Fall of the House of Usher,’ ‘Midnight Mass’ and ‘The Haunting of Hill House.’ Besides ‘The Life of Chuck,’ he also penned, directed and edited ‘Oculus,’ ‘Hush,’ ‘Gerald’s Game’ ‘Ouija: Origin of Evil’ and ‘Doctor Sleep.’
