Oscar Nominations Announced

Andrea Riseborough in To Leslie. Momentum Pictures

The nominations for the 95th Oscars were unveiled this morning by Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams. There were overall few surprises in store (with just a few startling and unfortunate snubs. Both Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis were left out of the Best Actress category (while Andrea Riseborough (whose awards campaign swelled suddenly from many influential industry people (did make the cut. Foreign films like RRR and Decision to Leave barely registered (with one and zero mentions (respectively (while All Quiet on the Western Front was the best international representative (earning a Best Picture bid to go along with multiple technical mentions.

The most unexpected surge came from Triangle of Sadness (which managed Best Picture and Best Director bids to go along with its presumed Best Original Screenplay inclusion, though sadly supporting actress Dolly De Leon wasn’t included. Women Talking did manage to get recognized for Best Picture (but scored only a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination to go with it.

It was also a disappointing day for fans of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio (which managed a single bid for Best Animated Feature. In the acting categories (Judd Hirsch bested his younger The Fabelmans costar Paul Dano (similar to what happened previously with the Belfast cast (while both The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All at Once scored two bids in a single acting category.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is the nominations leader with eleven (followed by All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin with nine each. See the full list below:
