For years, the Hollywood Vampires existed as something of a Hollywood secret. Their rise from an underground gathering of famous friends to play music to one of the world’s most recognizable touring rock bands would is chronicled in the new music documentary, ‘Unleashed Spirits: The Rise of the Hollywood Vampires.’
Prolific documentary director Daniel E. Catullo III helmed the film. The movie stars the leading members of Hollywood Vampires, including Alice Cooper; Johnny Depp; Aerosmith co-founder and lead guitarist, Joe Perry; and guitarist, songwriter and producer Tommy Henriksen, a longtime member of Cooper’s touring band.
‘Unleashed Spirits’ chronicles how a secret 1970s drinking and social club led by Cooper inspired the powerhouse supergroup known as the Hollywood Vampires. The documentary explores Cooper, Depp, Perry and Henriksen’s collective journey from a hidden Hollywood haunt to arena rock stardom. The story highlights their extraordinary collaborations with legendary talent both on and behind the stage.
‘Unleashed Spirits’ takes audiences inside the musicians’ evolution as a band from their earliest rehearsals and recording sessions to their increasingly ambitious performances around the globe. The film chronicles the group’s transformation from an improbable gathering of famous friends into a formidable live act capable of commanding some of the world’s biggest stages.
‘Unleashed Spirits’ had its World Premiere as the opening night feature at the 42nd Annual Boston Film Festival. The screening was held at Boston’s Boch Center Wang Theatre on Friday, September 18. Cooper, Massachusetts native Perry, Henriksen and Catullo attended the event in-person. They participated in a Q&A following the screening, which was hosted by music historian and radio personality, Eddie Trunk.
