Famed Ukrainian poet, Taras Shevchenko is putting down his pen and picking up a samurai sword in the reimagining of his life in the upcoming action-adventure film, ‘Once Upon a Time in Ukraine.’ Bullets, swords and revenge drive the blood-soaked story of the Quentin Tarantino-inspired Western movie.
Samuel Goldwyn Films will release the feature in theaters and on VOD this Friday, April 14. In honor of the samurai comedy’s distribution, Film Factual is premiering an exclusive clip from the project, which is titled ‘Rebellion
‘Once Upon a Time in Ukraine’ was written and directed by Roman Perfilyev. The movie stars Roman Lutskyi (‘Reflection’) as Shevchenko, as well as Sergey Strelnikov (‘Ekaterina’) and Gen Seto (‘The Forest’).
In ‘Once Upon a Time in Ukraine,’ the samurai Akayo enters the territory of Ukraine to retrieve his master’s katana (Japanese sword) from Harimoto, who’s buying slaves from Ukrainian master, Jaromir. On his way, Akayo teams up with the Ukrainian serf Taras, who’s also guided by personal revenge; Taras wants to organize the release of his beloved Maria from a slave master. Their journey is full of peril, chaos and a few laughs along the way.
