Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer and poster for the upcoming Christmas sequel, ‘Violent Night 2.’ The assets are offering an early look at David Harbour’s anticipated return as the unconventional Santa Claus in the action comedy follow-up. The studio unveiled the trailer and poster to help promote the movie’s release in theaters on December 4.
The film’s trailer reunites Harbour with director Tommy Wirkola for another blood-soaked Christmas adventure following the breakout success of its predecessor, 2022’s ‘Violent Night.’ This time, Santa finds himself battling a ruthless gangster, played by Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Jared Harris. The latter has taken control of the Silver Bell Mall and is terrorizing its merchants during the holiday season.
However, Santa faces a different kind of challenge after losing his magic and questioning the true meaning of Christmas. With time running out, he must rediscover his faith in the goodness of others while protecting the mall’s community. His greatest reinforcement ultimately comes from Mrs. Claus (Kristen Bell), who joins the fight against Harris’ criminal operation.
The newly released poster emphasizes the series’ signature mix of holiday spirit and over-the-top action. The poster features the tagline: “If you’re nice, you get presents from the Big Guy. If you’re naughty, you get justice.”
Returning behind the camera is Wirkola, who directed the original movie, while screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller also reprise their roles. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch produced the comedy through 87North, the action-focused banner behind ‘John Wick,’ ‘Bullet Train,’ ‘Atomic Blonde,’ ‘The Fall Guy’ and the ‘Nobody’ franchise.
In addition to Harbour, Harris and Bell, ‘Violent Night 2’ stars Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano (‘The Last of Us,’ ‘The Sopranos’). They’re also joined on screen by Daniela Melchior (‘Fast X,’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’), Andrew Bachelor (‘Greenland,’ ‘The Walking Dead’) and AEW wrestler Maxwell Friedman (‘The Iron Claw,’ ‘Happy Gilmore 2’).
The original ‘Violent Night’ introduced audiences to a battle-weary Santa with lethal combat skills who was forced to defend a wealthy family after mercenaries invaded their home on Christmas Eve. The film became a surprise box office hit and developed a passionate fan following for its blend of action, comedy and holiday spectacle.
