More than a quarter-century after redefining found-footage horror, ‘The Blair Witch Project’ is returning in a newly restored collector’s edition. Lionsgate Limited has announced an exclusive two-disc Blu-ray and VHS release of the landmark 1999 horror film, with both editions arriving on October 13, 2026. The release celebrates the enduring legacy of directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez’s genre-defining phenomenon with a filmmaker-approved restoration sourced from the original Hi8 videotapes and 16mm film elements. The restoration marks the first U.S. home entertainment release to include both the revitalized original theatrical cut and the original festival cut in high definition, alongside the original 35mm theatrical exhibition version.

Widely credited with popularizing the modern found-footage format, ‘The Blair Witch Project’ became a cultural phenomenon upon its 1999 debut. The movie earned nearly $250 million worldwide against a micro-budget while permanently reshaping independent horror filmmaking.

The definitive two-disc Blu-ray edition includes an extensive collection of newly produced and archival bonus content. Exclusive Lionsgate Limited featurettes include ‘Season of the Witch,’ featuring new interviews with actors Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. The bonus features also include ‘Expanded Lore,’ ‘The Matt Blazi Project,’ ‘Mythos,’ ‘Eternal Impact,’ ‘Iconic Artifacts: The Blair Witch Project at MOPOP’ and ‘Film is Life: A Tribute to Cinematographer Neal Fredericks.’

Returning legacy bonus features encompass an audio commentary featuring Myrick and Sánchez, producer Robin Cowie, and co-producer Michael Monello on the original 35mm theatrical version. Additional archival content includes the influential mockumentary ‘Curse of the Blair Witch,’ ‘Sticks and Stones: An Exploration of the Blair Witch Legendm’ ‘The Blair Witch Legacy,’ ‘Analogue Horror in a Digital World,’ deleted scenes, alternate endings, directors’ interviews, Cannes 1999 archival footage, B-roll materials, Fear Sections and four theatrical trailers.

Originally written and directed by Myrick and Sánchez, ‘The Blair Witch Project’ stars Heather Donahue, Leonard and Williams as three student filmmakers who venture into the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland, to document the local legend of the titular Blair Witch. After mysteriously disappearing, the recovered footage chronicles their increasingly terrifying descent into paranoia and fear, creating one of horror cinema’s most influential and enduring experiences.

The remastered release presents the 81-minute feature in its original 4:3 aspect ratio with English 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio and English SDH subtitles. The Blu-ray carries the film’s original R rating.

Alongside the Blu-ray, Lionsgate Limited is also issuing a collectible VHS edition. This version of the movie will offer horror enthusiasts and physical media collectors an opportunity to own the film in a format that recalls its late-1990s cultural impact.
