
Like with Best Sound, this year’s nominees include many regulars, with the entire team from All Quiet on the Western Front being brand-new. From Avatar: The Way of Water¸ Joe Letteri and Richard Baneham won for the first Avatar, and Letteri has nine other nominations and three wins, for The Two Towers, The Return of the King, and King Kong. Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett each have multiple nominations, for the Hobbit and Planet of the Apes franchises, respectively. From The Batman, Dan Lemmon also worked with Barrett on the Apes movies and won for The Jungle Book. Russell Earl has five previous nominations, including for two Avengers films. Anders Langlands was nominated for The Martian and Mulan, and Dominic Tuohy was nominated for Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, winning for 1917. From Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Craig Hammack was nominated for Deepwater Horizon, and R. Christopher White was nominated for Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Dan Sudick has twelve previous nominations, and this is his tenth bid for a Marvel movie. From Top Gun: Maverick, Scott R. Fisher has two wins, for Interstellar and Tenet. At the Visual Effects Society Awards, Avatar: The Way of Water cleaned up, winning every category in which it was nominated, and defeating all but All Quiet on the Western Front, which wasn’t in competition.
