Other Mommy Tops Box Office with $27.5 Million Debut as Jessica Chastain Leads Supernatural Horror Film

There’s nothing like a mother’s love. But in the new supernatural psychological horror film, ‘Other Mommy,’ that love takes a terrifying turn.

The drama debuted at No. 1 at the domestic box office, earning an estimated $27.5 million during its opening weekend, October 9–11. The project has also generated approximately $45.2 million worldwide, marking a strong start for the supernatural thriller from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Rob Savage directed ‘Other Mommy.’ The movie’s screenplay from Nathan Elston is based on ‘Incidents Around the House,’ the 2024 New York Times bestselling horror novel by ‘Bird Box’ author Josh Malerman.

Horror veteran James Wan produced the thriller through Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The studio is also known for producing this summer’s hit genre titles ‘Backrooms’ and ‘Obsession.’

The new film stars Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain in dual roles. She plays a young girl’s mother, Ursula, and the sinister titular entity that takes on her appearance.

‘Other Mommy’ follows Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), a young girl who forms a disturbing relationship with the entity inside her home. As the line between the familiar and the frightening begins to blur, the story explores the dark side of the family bond through a supernatural horror lens.

The film’s final trailer teases the unsettling premise with the haunting question, “Can I go inside your heart?” The chilling line hints at the psychological terror awaiting audiences as Bela confronts an entity that may be closer to home than anyone realizes.
