Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe Star in New Official Trailer For Anticipated Blumhouse Slasher Film River

Fear runs deep in ‘River,’ the upcoming slasher film that plunges a family reunion into a nightmare of isolation, terror and relentless pursuit. A new trailer for the highly anticipated horror movie has arrived, offering a chilling glimpse at a remote river trip that quickly spirals into a fight for survival.

‘River’ follows estranged siblings who return to their rural hometown following their father’s death. Hoping to honor his memory, they travel to a remote river to scatter his ashes at his favorite spot. But what begins as a personal journey soon becomes a terrifying ordeal when a disturbing masked figure begins hunting them.

Jane Levy (‘Don’t Breathe,’ ‘Evil Dead’), Jessica Rothe (‘Happy Death Day’ franchise, ‘Pulse’) and Max Mattern (‘Cape Fear,’ ‘Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy’) star as the siblings. They’re joined on screen by Dane DiLiegro (‘Prey,’ ‘Only Murders in the Building’), who portrays the menacing figure pursuing them.

‘River’ marks the feature directorial debut of writer-helmer Joshua Giuliano. He brings a new entry to the slasher genre with a premise built around family tensions, an isolated setting and an unknown threat lurking just beyond the water.

Following a standout screening in the Midnight Madness program at the Toronto International Film Festival, ‘River’ was acquired by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The drama subsequently screened at Fantastic Fest and Beyond Fest, building anticipation among horror fans ahead of its theatrical release on January 15, 2027.

The movie’s executive producers include Jeffrey Tinnell, Robert Tinnell, Matt Brodlie, Jonathan Kier, Ben Ross and Jason Blum. Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Independent Film Company present the Shudder Original Production in association with Upgrade.
