$positions Exclusive Clip Explores the Illusion of Financial Escape Ahead of Digital Release

Many people truly believe that things are bound to work out, despite the fact that they never have before. That’s certainly the case for the protagonist of the comedy thriller, ‘$positions.’ Up-and-coming helmer Brandon Daley explores the human element in the cryptocurrency world, something that hasn’t fully been explored in the fiction film space before.

‘$positions’ had its World Premiered in the Narrative Spotlight section at last year’s SXSW. The movie then went on to have its Quebec Premiere at last summer’s Fantasia.

After its festival run, the critically acclaimed thriller played at Alamo Drafthouse theaters. Dark Star Pictures will distribute the film on Digital and On-Demand tomorrow, May 12, 2026. In honor of the project’s digital release, Film Factual is debuting an exclusive clip from the project, which is titled ‘Beer.’

Brandon Daley wrote, and made his feature film directorial debut on, the project. ‘$positions’ stars Michael Kunicki, Vinny Kress, Trevor Dawkins and Kaylyn Carter. The thriller also introduces Vinny Kress, an aspiring Chicago-based actor with Down syndrome, in his first leading role.

‘$positions’ follows straight-edge Mike (Kunick), a blue-collar Midwesterner as he attempts to save his family from the throes of poverty. Driven by desperation, an overinflated ego and an overwhelming responsibility to support his special-needs brother (Kress) and alcoholic father (Guido Z Cameli), he turns to the erratic world of cryptocurrencies for help.

After hitting it mid with XMUN-coin, all of Mike’s problems disappear. He quits his dead-end but stable job, convinces his devoted girlfriend Charlene (Carter) to open up their relationship, reconnects with his recently sober cousin Travis (Dawkins) and even gets invited to his first party! However, Mike’s greed and inexperience with being the It Guy around town send him spiralling into a series of bad decisions that threaten more than just his bank account!
